Why Choose Tuen Mun HD MRI Centre?
-
With state-of-the-art MRI machine installed in 2022, we can provide superior image quality and diagnostic accuracy with shorter time compared to older models.
-
Our centre is equipped with Medical Report Output System (MROS) teamed with a high-resolution FUJIFILM printer specifically for medical purpose. Images and report are printed in one handy booklet, instead of using non-ecofriendly radiographic films.
-
We are located on the ground floor of Hotel Cozi Resort. We have various barrier-free facilities, making it accessible for all patients.
-
We are linked with Electronic Health Record (eHR), enabling immediate upload of reports upon completion.
-
We are on the HA's list of recognized private healthcare providers. We accept health care vouchers. We are pleased to offer special discount for HA patients.

What is magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)?
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is an imaging examination that can be used to diagnose different parts of the human body. MRI utilizes magnetic fields and radio wave resonance frequencies to generate images of the interior of the body. The machine generates a powerful magnetic field which temporarily realigns the hydrogen atoms in the water molecules inside the body. These atoms then release signals when subjected to radio waves, and the signals are picked up by receivers at multiple angles and transmitted to a computer system for reconstruction and processing, in order to generate images of the interior of the body. Since different organs and tissues in the body have different water content, MRI can differentiate between tissues with similar densities.

Advantages of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
-
MRI is suitable for imaging the whole body, especially the brain, cerebral blood vessels, neck vessels, spine, muscles, joints, prostate and uterus.
-
MRI can be used for diagnosis prior to invasive procedures like biopsy, and thus reduce false positive results. Also, because MRI does not have radiation, it is suitable for diagnose and monitor various diseases without worrying about radiation exposure.
-
Additionally, the contrast agents used in MRI do not contain iodine, so it is also suitable for patients who are allergic to iodine.
Shortcoming of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
-
MRI usually takes 30 – 90 minutes. Patients need to stay still to obtain clear images. Patients can sleep during the scan.
-
MRI machine will produce loud banging noises. We will provide earplugs and headphones with music.
-
The strong magnetic field produced by MRI scanner may affect the body implant and equipment. Individuals with certain conditions may not be suitable for MRI examination. Please refer to the MRI safety information below for details.

MRI Safety
MRI is generally safe. However, the powerful magnetic field that MRI generates may cause implants in the body to heat up, dislocate, or distort images. Our staff will confirm with patients if they have any of the following conditions. Please inform our staff if you have:
Vascular clips
Internal drainage catheters
Cochlear implants/hearing aids
Neurostimulators
Cardiac pacemakers/artificial valves/metallic stents
Insulin pumps
Dental implants (removable or fixed)
Metal fragments/bullet shrapnel /orbital metallic foreign bodies
Intrauterine contraceptive devices
Orthopedic pins, screws, or artificial joints
Tattoos/ body piercings
Claustrophobia or young children (can be accompanied by family members)
Pregnancy or possibility of pregnancy (MRI effects on fetus are inconclusive, thus we recommend pregnant women avoid MRI)
Before entering the exam room, please remove any metal objects, glasses, jewelry, and eye makeup. All metallic objects, electronic items, credit cards etc. must be kept in locker to prevent them from flying off or malfunctioning. Staff will scan patients with a metal detector.
Our MRI contrast agent has been used in government hospitals for years. It is generally safe. Those with poor renal function should consult their family doctor before exam.
Patients who will do MRCP should fast for 4 hours beforehand. Others do not have to fast.
MRI Scan Procedure
-
Please bring along your referral letter, ID and old reports for registration.
-
Our nurse will explain the procedure to the patient and inquire about the medical history.
-
MRI technician will position the patient on the examination table and attach the MRI coil. Patients will wear headphones/earplugs.
-
During the scan, staff will monitor the patient from outside. Patients can press the emergency button in their hand if need any help.
-
After plain scan, some patients will receive contrast injection as indicated.
-
After the scan, patients will be ensured of no complications before leaving.
-
Reports will be ready in 3-5 working days.
Conditions/ symptoms that MRI might be suitable for diagnosing, examples:
